Linear External Skeletal Fixation

A Beginner’s Guide

External Skeletal Fixation (ESF) is an excellent technique for fracture repair and osteotomy stabilisation. It can be used for long bone fractures, spinal fractures and luxations, trans-articular immobilisation for joint instability, arthrodesis, angular limb deformity correction, and limb lengthening (distraction osteogenesis). There are four main categories of ESF: Linear, Circle, Free-form and Hybrid.
