It is often the case that a plate is pushed under soft tissues to avoid unnecessarily large exposures only to find that it is very difficult to access the last screw hole. The bone plate lever slides along the plate until the tip drops over the end. The handle is then elevated and the tip of the lever hooks onto the end of the plate. As the retractor is lifed the end hole of the plate is exposed allowing free insertion of drills taps and screws.
