Our first two production level canine limb salvage plates are presented below. They are designed to be the major implant in a construct that allows an early return to weight-bearing following resection of an osteosarcoma in the distal radius. These are available off the shelf for immediate dispatch, minimising delays to surgery. On request, plates can be shortened at VI with dispatch the same or following day. Orthogonal plating is often employed to increase stability. A number of options are available to fill the void created: • An ulna roll-up technique is proving popular • Bone blocks are available in a range of sizes from the Veterinary Tissue Bank (VTB) • Metallic spacers are also available, please phone for details To better serve prospective forelimb salvage patients, we would like to invite surgeon feedback on these plates and ideas to develop this range further. Imaging from patients that do not go to surgery due to the lack of implants are a particular area that we would like to focus on. Elective fore-limb shortening may be a consideration if even these plates prove too short in very long legged patients, but we are not aware of any study into the long term effects of doing so. 152903XXL A 2.7/3.5mm DCP style forelimb salvage plate using the same profile as 3.5mm broad DCPs. 262mm long. Designed to be customisable by cutting to length where facilities exist (eg Veterinary Instrumentation). In exceptionally large dogs with no or very minimal radial pro-curvatum, this may also be of use as a medial orthogonal plate. Plates can be shortened on request. 152980 At 320mm long, this is currently our largest forelimb salvage plate. It features a combination of 3.5mm and 4.5mm standard cortical screw holes with a number of 3.5mm stacked locking holes. This is a big implant with the same profile as a 4.5mm broad DCP. The plate was originally commissioned by Bill Oxley at Willows Specialist Referral Hospital. It can be shortened on request.
