Osteoinduction refers to the capability of inducing new bone formation in heterotopic sites. This is attributed to the presence of growth factor bone morphogenic protein (BMP). DBM allograft contains endogenous BMPs and for this reason DBM is used in procedures where fusion is needed such as in fracture repair, spinal fusion and specially in arthrodesis. DBM is rehydrate with isotonic solution at the time of use to make like wet sand for better handling. The product is available off the shelf, ambient temperature storage and carries a few years of shelf life.
